The Drawing Delay

Hello again! I hope your new year has been off to a good start, whatever it is that good means in your books.

I've been keeping busy working on projects, but I've run into a--delay? Of sorts. See, originally, I'd mostly been working on my writing projects. But as one is writing, there are certain scenes that are just calling for illustration. And so I have no choice: I must learn to draw. Hence the delay.

And while there are many different styles of art, my interest has been piqued by digital art. It's so complex, what with vectors and rasterization and that ridiculous pen tool in Illustrator. But the results are so beautiful! And another plus: it's indecision friendly.

The main reason I don't practice drawing enough is my indecisiveness. I always end up erasing until I find the perfect look for my characters, but by then, the eraser smudges are far too noticeable and replicating the piece would be unbearable.

But with digital art, as long as I remember to create a different layer for everything, I can try as many different ideas (even colors) as I'd like. With a bit of practice and some tool upgrades, I WILL BE UNSTOPPABLE.

Anyway, as I'm writing, I'll be dabbling in illustrations. While I did illustrate El Jardin de Mama, that was my first foray into digital art and I'm not counting it. That was drawn by hand and colored in photoshop. No, no. Now I know how to vectorize things. How to use the curve tool in Illustrator. How to blend layers!!

I'm also trying to upgrade from my Wacom Intuos tablet (old....like 2014? approx 6x8 in, works great!) to a Huion GT 191 (approx 18x12 inches...and you draw on the screen!!!). Its used and I'm having some issues trying to get the pen to connect, but once it starts working, it's going to be a great upgrade.

I'm more excited than ever to bring my imagination to life!! :D
